It Is Official: President Trump

1 Thing You Can Do Right Now

Pray for the Powerful

Some of you are celebrating!

Some of you are wallowing…

I don’t know how you feel about President Trump.  Frankly, I’m not exactly sure how I feel about him.  I’ve got serious concerns about his character and background.  I also like some of the promises he’s made, specifically when it comes to the Supreme Court and Pro-Life causes.  I’m interested to see what the next four years will look like for the United States.

This isn’t about what I think about President Trump.

This isn’t about what you think about President Trump.

This is about the duty a follower of Jesus owes President Trump (and all of our nation’s authorities) regardless of how you voted and who is president.

In a word…

If you call yourself a believer in Jesus then regardless of who you voted for, your political affiliation, or your personal feelings you need to pray for President Trump, Vice President Pence and the new administration of the United States of America.

Here are three ways I will be praying for this new administration:

1) Asking God to give President Trump wisdom as he leads our nation

Leadership is hard.  Leading a nation is incredibly difficult.  If you doubt this just look at pictures of the presidents when they are elected and contrast to when they leave office.  Without a doubt the leadership of our country will not be an easy job.  All citizens should want their president to lead with wisdom.  I’m praying the Lord will grant wisdom liberally to President Trump and this administration.

2) Asking the King of Kings to give President Trump humility as he leads our country

Humility is not a trait that is typically associated with national political leaders.  However, it needs to be.  Leadership is stewardship and when that stewardship is a nation and its people then humility is necessary.  I’m praying that this administration seeks to serve the people of this country.  As I’ve shared in a previous post, if serving is below you then leadership is beyond you.

3) Asking our Heavenly Father to give President Trump courage to lead well

Our country faces all kinds of threats.  Our leaders need courage to make decisions.  I’m praying these decisions are humble and wise.  I’m asking for all of our leaders to have courage to do the right things even when they are not necessarily popular things.  This is courage.

Finally, I’m remembering one thing: I have dual citizenship

I live in a wonderful nation.  I love the USA.  However, my eternal citizenship is in heaven.  My hope isn’t in this country or on this earth or in any national leader.  My hope is the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel loving believer in Jesus I’m praying you remember this as well.

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. (Philippians 3:20-21)
